A Serbian national today pleaded guilty to falsifying her passport, to extend her stay in Malta after falling in love.

Mrs Jasmina Mijatovic eventually married her current husband, an EU citizen, and they now live in Malta.

The arrest came as part of an ongoing investigation by police into a recent string of false passport stamps being used.

Inspector Mario Haber said that she fully cooperated with the police. The defendant’s lawyer, Francois Dalli said that his client made a mistake and that she had a clean criminal record. “It was a mistake and she will never do it again”.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras gave her a 9-month prison term, suspended for two years
