Meeting the unsung heroes

Monday, 13 July 2015, 15:34 Last update: about 12 years ago

On 15 July, Heritage Malta will be organising another event as part of the commemoration of the 450th anniversary of the Great Siege of 1565.

Have you ever thought of what it would be like to meet Toni Bajada? What were the thoughts of the Grand Master during the attack on Fort St Michael? Is it true that there were Ottoman spies among the Maltese? Where there any Maltese who took the side of the invaders? Shadows of the Great Siege is an animated tour of the streets of Birgu and Bormla which are not only brimming with history but were also the site of various facts and legends woven through the years. Those who choose to attend will be taken on an animated tour along these streets led by curator Liam Gauci and  featuring tales related to the Great Siege of 1565.

After the tour, participants will visit the Malta Maritime Museum for light refreshments based on recipes from the period and a mini tour of the museum focused on the maritime aspect of the Great Siege. The meeting point for the event is Couvre Porte in Birgu.

Tickets at €20 for adults and €18 for students, senior citizens and Heritage Malta members, are limited.

Booking is open from all Heritage Malta sites and museums as well as online from http://shop.heritagemalta.org. For more information phone on 2395 4242 or follow the official Heritage Malta Facebook page.
