A package believed to contain illicit drugs was discovered by a group of divers practising their sport in the Xwejni Bay, in Zebbug Gozo.

The package was handed over to the police, who are questioning some people in connection with the discovery.

In a statement, the police said that at 4.45pm yesterday, police officers were approached by a group of divers who had just made the find.

The package consisted of a black plastic bag in which there was a container with cannabis resin blocks which weighed around 20 kilogrammes.

Magistrate Joanne Vella Cuschieri ordered an inquiry.

The police are investigating.
