A 36 year-old man residing in Xghajra is being held by the Police in connection with an incident which took place today at about noon in a residence in Triq il-Fabbriki, Xghajra.
The case started yesterday when a woman sought police assistance after her son was using drugs, was damaging her property and was in possession of a firearm. The man had left the household, and the woman was asked to contact the Police immediately upon his return, the police said.
Today, District and RIU Police officers rushed on site as soon as a report was lodged by the woman. Upon entering the residence the Police noted the man rolling something and with a number of syringes close by. As soon as the man saw the Police he appeared to cooperate, however, at one point he grabbed two knives and started uttering threatening words.
There was no other option for the Police but to tase the man for his own safety as well as others'. The man was eventually arrested. No one was hurt during the altercation.
