Therese Comodini Cachia MEP welcomed cyclists and accompanying members of ALIVE Charity Foundation from Malta at Oostende yesterday during their yearly cycling challenge to raise funds for cancer research in Malta.

46 cyclists and 4 back-ups are participating in this challenge which has already seen the crossing of 6 countries and today they are crossing from France to London. Today they cycle for another 16kms and this brings their cycling challenge to a close having taken them from Liechtenstein to London in 7 days.

From last year's challenge ALIVE donated over €135,000 towards Breast Cancer Research, results of which are already bearing fruit.  Maltese researchers are being invited on a Europe wide tour to showcase their amazing breakthrough. The donations collected from this year's challenge will go towards conducting cancer research in children with leukaemia and brain tumour.

Addressing the contingent yesterday at Oostende, Therese Comodini Cachia said “Your initiative is laudable.  You believed that together you can make a difference and you are really making a difference in research for medical health. Thank you for helping all those who will be using these medical services”

Ambassador Ray Azzopardi also attended the welcoming reception prepared for the cyclists by Daiken Europe who is the group’s main sponsor.
