An amendment to a legal notice now allows church schools and private schools to have one representative each in the Education Institute board, following a proposal by the Opposition.
The government’s original decision was to have one representative for both church schools and private schools; however the opposition said there should be one each, given the needs of the two types of schools are different.
The government chose to accept the amendment to the legal notice put forward by the opposition.
However the government ignored the second amendment put forward, asking for one representative of the institute to be chosen by the Opposition, who had claimed that education should not end up being political football.
