A man who borrowed his cousin's vehicle to dump plastic containers with burnt oil in Kalkara, today was fined €2,330, after he admitted to multiple counts of littering and waste-dumping charges.
Matthew Calleja, 36, from Zabbar, pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him before Magistrate Doreen Clarke,
He was caught on camera dumping the waste illegally and the footage was aired on a TV news bulletin yesterday.
Mr Calleja's cousin, Simon Azzopardi, lent his car to the accused who asked to borrow the car to transport items. In court, Mr Azzopardi denied knowledge that his car was going to be used for illegal dumping.
Magistrate Clarke imposed a €2,330 fine and granted permission for this to be paid in monthly instalments of €200.
Police Inspector Josric Mifsud prosecuted while lawyer Jesmond Manicaro appeared for Mr Calleja.
