The Parliamentary Secretary for Economic Growth Jose Herrera today said there is a need to foster an entrepreneurial culture in Malta and ensure that more home-grown innovations make it to investment.
Speaking during a start-up conference, Dr Herrera said the Maltese economy must be transformed into a home for innovation specialists, who are best positioned to build tomorrow’s technologies and disruptions.
“We need to ensure that the economy encourages and facilitates investment if we truly believe in business innovation...
“We want to position Malta firmly on businesses’ path to growth and success,” he said.
“We need to identify and develop our unique position. This can only be achieved if we are nimble enough to indentify the niches and act timely. We also need to make ourselves more visible and accessible.”
Dr Herrera said the past two weeks have been “remarkably positive” for Malta.
“The Digital Agenda Scoreboard published by the European Commission has once again confirmed Malta as the top performer when it comes to next generation network broadband coverage.
“Furthermore, earlier this week we announced an agreement with Huawei- a global technology giant and major party in European efforts to build 5G technology.”
