Simon Busuttil tells ‘Konrad Mizzi’s wife’ during meeting that he is ‘disappointed’ at her work

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil today told the government’s special envoy to China “Konrad Mizzi’s wife” that he is disappointed at the lack of results she has produced over the last two years.

The Opposition leader is currently touring Shanghai.

At no point in the press release did the PN refer to Mrs Mizzi by her name, instead referring to her as “Konrad Mizzi’s wife.”

Dr Busuttil said not enough has been done in order to help Maltese businesses tap the Chinese market.

The PN’s spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Tonio Fenech said that while taxpayers are footing the €13,000 monthly bill for “Konrad Mizzi’s wife,” the lack of results are clear proof that the government does not know what it is doing.

In terms of results, instead of Malta being painted in a good light it is instead being portrayed negatively, Mr Fenech said.

The Nationalist Party hit out at the government’s nepotism, saying that instead of choosing the best person for the role, it chose the Energy Minister’s wife.

In its own statement about the meeting, the government said that Dr Busuttil was given an overview of the work that is being carrued out by Mrs Mizzi Liang.

During the meeting, held at the Maltese consulate in Shanghai where work is being carried out on the offices from where consular services will be provided, Mrs Mizzi Liang explained what her role is to attract more investment to Malta from Asia. She mentioned the Huawei company that on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the government on 5G test services.
