Our Lady of Victory Church temporarily closed from tomorrow

Monday, 27 July 2015, 12:53 Last update: about 12 years ago

Din l-Art Helwa has advised the public that as from Monday 27 July, Our Lady of Victory Church in Valletta will be closed for a few weeks while work is carried out to remove the temporary vault scaffolding.

This extensive flooring was erected for the restoration of the Alessio Erardi ceiling paintings in 1996 by the Valletta Rehabilitation Project who are now assisting Din l-Art Helwa with its complex removal.

When the church reopens towards the end of August, the Alessio Erardi ceiling with its monumental scheme of baroque paintings dedicated to the life of the Blessed Virgin will be revealed and lighting trials will then be carried out.  The ceiling has been hidden from view for almost twenty years and Din l-Art Helwa's restoration sees the completion as one of the flagship projects being brought to a successful close for the organisation's 50th Anniversary and for the 450th Anniversary of the Great Siege.

The conservation of the Alessio Erardi Ceiling was carried out by the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, and is made possible by the HSBC Malta Foundation.

Din l-Art Helwa said it regrets the temporary inconvenience.
