Jose Mourinho has hit out at his medical team for going on to the pitch without knowing the extent of an injury to Eden Hazard, accusing his staff of potentially costing Chelsea a late goal.

His side were temporarily reduced to nine men during the closing stages of the Barclays Premier League match after Hazard received medical attention from doctor Eva Carneiro.

Club doctor Carneiro immediately dashed on to the pitch to treat Hazard but Mourinho insisted the medic made the wrong decision.

Rules state that an outfield player must be ushered back on to the field of play from the sidelines by the referee after receiving treatment in order to minimise timewasting.

Mourinho was left frustrated by his medical team's decision as his side were already reduced to 10 men following Thibaut Courtois' 52nd-minute dismissal.

The Portuguese tactician, speaking to Sky Sports following Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Swansea City, said of his medical team: 'I was not happy with my medical staff. Even if you are a kit man, doctor or secretary on the bench you have to understand the game.

'You have to know you have one player less and when you go to the pitch to assist a player you have to make sure your player has a serious injury.

'I was sure he hadn't a serious problem. He had a knock, he was very tired. But my medical department - on an impulse - was naive and left me with eight outfield players in a counter attack after a set piece.'
