Restoration works on 9,600 square metres of Mdina bastions are set to be completed by the end of this year.
The project is the final project in a chain of bastion works around the island – in Valletta, Senglea , Vittoriosa and Mdina. In total, the works cost €42 million and are being partially funded by the EU.
The project in Mdina is being divided in two - St Peter's bastion and St Mary's bastion and the area surrounding Greek’s Gate, where most of the work is needed.
Restoration works include cleaning of cement and lime layers and minor replacement of stones.
Culture Minister Owen Bonnici toured the restoration works this morning, lauding all workers for their work.
