The Statue of St Paul found in the Parish Church of the Conversion of St Paul in Safi has been fully restored, in time for the village's feast, which is being celebrated today.

The statue has been undergoing restoration since January, and work has not only conserved the piece but it has which has also brought out original features which had become hidden with time and because of interventions.

The statue, work of Alessandro Farrugia of Zejtun, was sculpted from wood in 1842.  The restoration was done in Malta by Atelier del Restauro, who had also restored the statue of St Helen of Birkirkara.

The exercise also had an educational aspect, as it became a community project with parishioners visiting the ongoing works over the period and appreciating the work being carried out.

Other measures such as adding climate control to the niche where the statue is kept during the year is also ongoing. 

The pedestal on which the statue is placed has also been carefully restored.  The pedestal is the work of Emmanuel Buhagiar, in 1939, and is a fine example of the decorative art and golden gild.
