A 28-year-old man was sentenced to 16 months in prison after eing found guilty of a number of charges brought against him.
In May of this year, Roderick Tabone was charged with stealing a pouch containing a cheque book and a multi tool from a vehicle, causing damage to the vehicle and relapsing.
In 2013, the man was granted conditional discharge for drug possession, but later on in the year he was again charged with drug possession and aggravated theft. The court had noted that the man needs help with his drug abuse problem and extended the conditional discharge to a maximum of three years.
In court, the probation officer explained that the man had started a rehabilitation programme several times but never completed it.
The court said that the man had been given ample opportunities to change his ways but he persisted.
Magistrate Doreen Clarke handed down a 16-month prison sentence.
Inspector Kylie Borg led the prosecution.
