Gozo Bishop Mario Grech has said that the worst thing for mankind would be to lose its sense of humanity in the face of the ongoing human tragedy.

The Gozo Diocese recently established a committee to coordinate a visit by a group of Iraqi students in the coming Summer, as a gesture of solidarity  with those being persecuted. The Diocese proposed that every Parish community offer accommodation to these students, and help them grow, in the hopes that they can later help rebuild their communities at home. This work is being done in collaboration with the Anglican community in Gozo.

This came in light of the statement made by Pope Francis this morning, urging parishes as well as monasteries to house a family of refugees.

In a speech he delivered a year ago, the Bishop said - "It is my hope as the local spiritual leader to send a signal of solidarity to refugees. I propose that every parish community in Gozo hosts one of the refugee families". He had proposed that each parish adopt one of these families and provide them with housing and the means to sustain themselves.
