AD councillors to present motions calling on Sliema, Attard councils to adopt Syrian families

Monday, 7 September 2015, 10:31 Last update: about 12 years ago

AD councillors Michael Briguglio and Ralph Cassar, who serve on the Sliema and Attard local councils respectively, are calling for the adoption of two Syrian families by these two localities.

In a motion that will be presented in the coming days, Briguglio and Cassar call for a show of solidarity with refugees coming from the war torn country. At the same time, AD joined the appeals being made for local communities to show solidarity in this moment of great suffering by people from the region.

Their motion speaks about the Syrian refugee crisis that is unfolding in the Mediterranean, Hungary and Austria. It calls on the councils to show the basic principle of solidarity that has always been practiced by the Maltese and do their part so that their localities give a direct contribution, even if small, to help alleviate this human crisis. They urge the Sliema and Attard local councils to seek help from civil society and the central government to adopt a Syrian family each.
