Transport and Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi has announced a number of projects that will contribute to the regeneration of Senglea and the whole Cottonera area, including the restoration of the church of St Julian, which will commence next year, and works on the roof of the Marija Bambina church. Other projects planned by the Cottonera Rehabilitation Committee include preparatory works for the restoration of roof of the Grand Hall and works on the church steeple.

Following the approval of a planning application a call will be issued for the replacement of the war memorial to one made out of bronze. Mr Mizzi also announced that a wall at Boiler Wharf will be replaced by a metal security fence. Discussions are also underway on the restoration of the facade of the Queens Own Band Club.

The Cottonera Regeneration Committee is also studying ways to upgrade the area near the St Anna gate at the entrance of Senglea and rehabilitating the area known as tas-Sirena.

Mr Mizzi was speaking after the christening of the Senglea church parvis on the occasion of the village feast.

He explained how paving work was carried out on the 392-square metre parvis. The project cost €160,000.  The area is now fully accessible. A new ramp has been installed and a second one will be placed near the oratory.

He also noted that one of the first projects carried out by the current administration in Senglea was the restoration of the Madonna tan-Nofs and works along the promenade.
