A Frenchman was given a three-month jail term suspended for two years today after he admitted in court to having insulted the President of Malta.

The incident happened late on Sunday at the Sliema police station.

It is understood that Rudy Bauduin entered the police station and kept shouting 'racist' and 'racism'.

When officers present asked him what he was on about, he pointed the President of Malta's picture and mouthed insults.

He then walked out of the police station and refused to give his particulars to officers who followed him, whereupon an arrest was attempted.

The man allegedly headbutted one of the officers before he was handcuffed and taken into custody.
