Malta Public Transport said today it has received its third and final delivery of 62 buses.
This brings the total of new buses to 142 in time for the planned launch of the new routes, which will take effect this Sunday 13 September.
The first delivery of 80 buses was delivered earlier this summer. These buses were immediately put into service thus increasing the overall capacity of the network.
The Turkish company Otokar purposefully for the Maltese public transport network has built the new buses. The buses are shorter and narrower than the older buses already in the network some of which are being replaced. The new buses are easier to maneuver on certain routes. In fact, they have so far received very positive comments from drivers and the general public.
The Otokar buses are low floor, providing easy access for wheelchairs and less mobile passengers. The buses have a capacity of 60 passengers and are equipped with Euro 6 engines, the very latest standards for environmentally friendly public transport.
The new routes are planned to come into effect on Sunday 13 September. Customers may enquire on the customer care helpline 2122 2000 for more information on the new buses and on the new routes.
