PN Deputy Leader Beppe Fenech Adami this evening said Sunday morning’s stabbing assault in Paceville showed that the police did not have enough resources in the area. The public, he said, was concerned about the security situation around the country.

Dr Fenech Adami said people were concerned by the number of criminal acts that had taken place in the past weeks and months, including burglaries and this weekend’s attack in Paceville.

“At the time of the assault the police were understaffed and could not cope with the situation. Despite the efforts of the police it is clear that the government is not providing the Force with adequate resoursces,” he said. Incidents like this one were very concerning for youths who frequented the area as well as their parents.

Whilst congratulating the police for carrying out their duties, including solving the recent spate of Sliema burglaries, the PN called on the government to take the necessary measures and beef up the police presence in the Sliema, St Julians, San Gwann, St Paul’s Bay and Gzira areas without any excuses or delays.
