A Syrian man has been charged with making a false declaration to a public official after police officers who stopped him for failing to observe roundabout rules found that his driving licence was fake.

Mohamad Dusho, 25, a refugee who works as a tile-layer, was also charged with driving a motor vehicle without a licence or insurance and with not giving way to vehicles driving around a roundabout.
Police Inspectors Pierguido Saliba and Sergio Pisani said Mr Dusho’s van was stopped by a police rider after the accused failed to stop at the Iklin roundabout, narrowly avoiding a collision.

On inspection the officer found that the man was carrying a fake licence and had no insurance policy. He was carrying four passengers.

Before Magistrate Joseph Mifsud, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €1,000.
