The Marsa Scout Group organised its yearly camp in the vicinity of the San Luċjan Tower in Marsaxlokk between 31 July and 15 August.

This camp will be remembered for the infamous short storms, when the skies emptied over the camp on Saturday at noon and on Wednesday around 9pm, just before the Camp Fire. The camping site was made up of 31 camps: 13 ridge tents GS, 14 private tents which varied in type and colour, two ridge tents RD and two 76-foot-long marquee tents which served as a kitchen and dining area. The setting up of the equipment commenced on Thursday in order to have everything set by Sunday and this was possible thanks to the substantial work that took place during the Advance Party under the direction of Camp Chief GSL Cutajar and the Deputy Camp Chief A/GSL Camilleri.  

The Beavers, led by BSL Simler, the Assistant BSL and the Helpers, took part in craft- related activities and games over two afternoons, and took part in mass celebrations and dined with the Group before leaving with their parents. They returned on Wednesday when, apart from participating in games and singing activities, they also baked cookies and took part in the Camp Fire.

CSL Camilleri, the Assistant CSL and the Pack Section Helpers received the cubs on Sunday morning and had a four-day programme packed with activities based on a "Knights" theme which involved crafts, skills, badge work, games, swimming and also biscuits baking. The three Sixes competed for the shield and also took part in an active Camp Fire. During the Camp there were eight cubs that achieved the Gold Arrow.

The Troop Section, which was under the charge of SL Savona and his two assistants, made various preparations for this camp which resulted in a smooth running programme. The theme of the Scouts was Myths and Legends and in this context they made a lot of crafts including a model of a castle, a lot of games, skills and night games, baked food in the oven that they helped build and also prepared some sweets, like cakes and pancakes. They also took part in their daily duties and participated in the Camp Fire.

The Venture Unit played a considerable part in the assembling and disassembling of the camp-site. Under the direction of VSL Vella and his assistant an adventurous programme was implemented, which included the building of a raft that was set out to sea and where various activities were held. The Rovers that were with RSL Tanti worked tirelessly to transport, assemble and disassemble the Camp equipment. They were also involved in the setting up of the gateway, the administration of the tuck shop, helping in the kitchen, holding sentry during the night and above all in the organisation of the Group Day, where they organised a lot of games and a huge quiz.

As with every edition, the Reunion Camp for ex-members of the Group took place. They spent three days with us, reminiscing about their memories of life under the tents. The involvement of these ex-members will now be a more active one since an official ex-member group was set up within the Group.

For a camp like this to be successful a lot of members start working on it months in advance. A/GSL Camilleri and ASL Borg had to start work on the Camp first, as always, in order for us to have an electric and water supply, together with showers and sanitary facilities in time for the Camp. They were very efficient as during and in the aftermath of the storms, everything worked without fault.

The Group chaplain Rev. Anton Dimech was in charge of the religious aspect who, in addition to the morning and evening prayers, celebrated mass every day. During two occasions he was joined by the parish priests of Marsa, Rev. Mangani and Rev. Falzon. Sunday mass was offered in memory of A/GSL Antoine Vella who passed away a few weeks ago. Before the mass commenced, family members read a poem he wrote in 2004.

Among those who visited was the new Chief Scout who had words of praise for our Group. He witnessed scouting at its best and he appreciated the work that took place in the set-up of the site, which hosted all the sections and group programmes.

The closure of the Camp took place on Wednesday before the Camp Fire, where a scouter from each Section said a few words regarding the performance of their respective section and announced competition results.
