President of the International National Trusts Organisation to visit Malta

Din l-Art Ħelwa has announced the visit to Malta of Professor Simon Molesworth, AO, QC., president of the International National Trusts Organisation (INTO) and a leading expert in environmental, planning, heritage, natural resource and climate change law. His visit has been organised by Din l-Art Ħelwa, a founding member of INTO, as part of the organisation's 50th Anniversary outreach programme. During his stay in Malta, between 13 and 18 September, Professor Molesworth will have the opportunity of visiting Malta's principal heritage sites and monuments, as well as many of the historic sites held in guardianship by Din l-Art Ħelwa.  He will have the opportunity of engaging with environment NGOs, academics, planners involved with environmental management and sustainable development. Professor Molesworth will also pay courtesy visits to H.E. the President of Malta, Dr Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, Leo Brincat, the Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Sustainable Development and will also meet the Australian High Commissioner Jane Lambert.

At a public talk organised by Din l-Art Ħelwa entitled Yesterday's inheritance and today's responsibility firmly focused on tomorrow's benefit, Professor Molesworth will focus on heritage and environmental management and balanced land use planning,  two  of the fundamental pillars underpinning a community's future and wellbeing particularly in a densely populated area such as Malta. This presentation will be given to interested stakeholders at the University of Malta, Valletta Campus, St Paul Street on Wednesday, 16 September at 11am and is by invitation through Din l-Art Ħelwa.

A Round Table debate organised jointly by the Times of Malta and the Chamber of Commerce with Din l-Art Helwa, will focus on the theme Environment and Business Development: Compatible Bedfellows? Professor Molesworth will discuss the issues surrounding business development and environment protection with leaders in both sectors. The debate will be on Wednesday, 16 September at 5.30pm. Invitation is through the Chamber of Commerce and through Din l-Art Helwa.

Professor Molesworth, an Australian, has been a Queen's Counsel for 20 years specialising as a barrister in environmental, planning, heritage, natural resource and climate change law. He has been a Professorial Fellow with Monash University since 2013 and prior to that was a professor with La Trobe University's Institute of Social & Environmental Sustainability. He is a Certified Environmental Practitioner and a fellow of five professional institutes covering diverse disciplines including law, environmental management, planning and management. 

Professor Molesworth has been the executive chairman and founder president of the International National Trusts Organisation (INTO) since its foundation. INTO brings together national trusts and heritage organisations worldwide with combined memberships of more than seven million people. 

A recipient of many awards, including the Australian Environmental Law Award for being a person who has "made an outstanding contribution to the development and understanding of environmental law in Australia",  he was appointed a member of the Order of Australia in 1994 primarily for his services to the national trusts in Australia. In 2012 he was elevated to an Officer of the Order of Australia for "distinguished service to conservation and the environment, to heritage preservation at national and international levels, to the professions and natural resource sectors".
