Two flatmates today were conditionally discharged for three years after admitting to biting each other multiple times during an argument at their Zabbar home.

The two men, Frank Kwaku Ayivi, a 31-year-old mason from the Ivory Coast and Charles Kesse, a 41-year-old carpenter from Ghana told Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona that they have forgiven each other following the argument on Monday.

Ayivi suffered bite wounds to his chin and cheek, as well as a knife wound to his feet, whilst Kesse was bitten on his finger and lip, as well as suffering an injury on his back

Magistrate Trigona warned the two men of the gravity of the charges, saying the grievous bodily harm charge carries a maximum prison sentence of nine years.

He joked that he will put the two men in the same prison cell if they have not sorted out their differences.

The argument broke out when Ayivi damaged some property in the flat. His flatmate told him to pay the landlord for the damages, but Ayivi refused.  

The two men were conditionally discharged for three years. Both men were also given a three year protection order.

Inspector Charlotte Curmi prosecuted and Noel Bartolo appeared as legal aid for the two men.
