Yousef Essesi, 24, has been fined €1,500 and his driving licence suspended for 30 days after admitting to negligently hitting Paulseph Pirotta who was driving a horse-drawn carriage and injuring him.
He also admitted to driving his BMW without a licence and relapsing. The accident happened on 6 August, 2014 at 4.45 p.m. in St Anne’s Street, Floriana.
Mr Pirotta told a court that this was simply an accident. But he explained that as a result of the accident, he fractured his hand and his carriage was damaged and is still suffering the consequences of his fracture to this day. He said however that he would not be resorting to further criminal action since the accused had cooperated fully with him and the costs of the damages were settled by the insurance of the accused.
Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana prosecuted.
