The Occupational, Health and Safety Authority has lamented the fact that there is an individual who is acting on behalf of a company that offers project supervision services in construction sites who is warning the owners of building sites that if they fail to appoint a project supervisor he would report them to the authority.

In a statement, the OHSA said that it is informed that this person even goes as far as handing owners of building sites a business card of his.

The OHSA noted that although this person is not breaching any laws, it is a clear case of a breach of ethics and an abuse of his profession.

The authority said that this person was also trying to put the OHSA in a bad spotlight by posting images on social media of persons breaching health and safety laws. The OHSA said that the images posted by this person weren’t even captured in Malta. The OHSA said that this same person, at times, also sends the authority a list of construction sites in Malta where he claims health and safety rules were breached and distributes the list to the media. On this point, the OHSA urged the media to be extra careful when it receives such reports since at times, there’s an agenda behind such actions.

The OHSA said that according to law, a project supervisor should be appointed by every site owner but it said it was concerned over the fact that this person was using the OHSA to threaten site owners.
