Speaker of the House Anglu Farrugia says he has no comment to make about the setting up of goalposts and basketball nets by the Nationalist Party directly outside of Parliament.

The sports equipment - which was set up as part of the PN’s Independence festivities in Valletta-has come in for a lot of flack, particularly in light of Opposition leader Simon Busuttil’s strong stance against the setting up of Monti stalls near the Parliament building.

“I will not get involved in this, what interests me is what happens inside of Parliament. I received a request from the Opposition to be able to show guests around Parliament at certain times on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This is positive and encouraging.”

“I am no longer affiliated with any political party, so I am not going to make a comment about it. It is up to people to decide whether they agree with it or not,” Dr Farrugia said.

The PN has also been criticised for setting up street furniture right next to the La Valette monument, in spite of an uproar earlier this year when kiosks had been set up there for Carnival activities.
