A 22-year old man from Birzebbuga is in critical condition after he was involved in a road accident early this morning.

The police said the man crashed his Suzuki Vitara into a tree in Vjal Santa Lucija, Paola, at around 05.15am. He was driving in the direction of Zejtun.

The Civil Protection Department was called to help the man out of the car. He was later certified as being in danger of dying by doctors at Mater Dei.

Magistrate Antonio Vella has appointed an inquiry.
