A man with the word ‘Bomba’ tattooed on his forehead in bold print today thanked Magistrate Aaron Bugeja for giving him 18 more months in prison for filing a false report claiming he was beaten up by prison warders.

Proceedings got under way with the man - Anthony James – telling the magistrate that he would like to drop the case.

The magistrate patiently explained that this is not possible, seeing that he is the accused in the case.

“I am guilty and will take what's coming to me, I want to sort this out not come to court again,” he said, while refuting the help of a lawyer.

Asked by the magistrate if he realised the gravity of his guilty plea, the James told the magistrate not to worry about it.

James raised a scene in prison when he saw his son, who is accused of punching a prison warder, being led away.

He started shouting at the warders and acting aggressively. Warders grabbed him underneath his arms and locked him in a room until he calmed down.

The court heard from a prison warden how the man took off his watch and scratched himself on the arms with the strap.

He filed a police report claiming he had been beaten by the warders, as evidenced by the scratches on his arm.

On investigating, the police found this to be a false report.

The court heard how the man has notched up nine previous convictions.

James was escorted out of court with a further 18 months imprisonment to his name.
