In view of today's meeting on migration between the EU Heads of Government, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof.  Arnold Cassola, said: "The EU is facing a big solidarity and humanitarian crisis. Until the urgent revision of the Dublin rules is seriously taken into hand, it is imperative that EU governments share the responsibility by distributing amongst themselves, according to fair and equitable quotas, all those who are fleeing war and persecution.

Egoistic national stands like those of Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, are not conducive to alleviating, let alone solving, the existing problems. Malta’s position in supporting a Europe of solidarity is indeed commendable."

"Temporarily suspending the Schengen agreement and therefore limiting the freedom of movement of EU citizens, as recently suggested by Maltese MP Franco Mercieca at an OSCE meeting, will not help at all".
