Studenti Demokristjani Maltin (SDM) today called for the immediate publication of examination results following a Facebook post from an official MATSEC social media account, indicating that results will be published by the end of September. SDM highlighted the fact that yesterday’s move by MATSEC angered students who contacted SDM to express their disbelief and disappointment. 

SDM noted that the late publication of results by MATSEC has become a yearly reality and this burden increases pressure and stress on students and their family, while casting doubt on their career options. It was noted how although results have not yet been published, University of Malta’s academic year starts next Monday, G. F. Abela Junior College starts its scholastic year next week and Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary Naxxar’s registration days start tomorrow. 

SDM explained how during the past 3 years it has constantly pressured MATSEC to publish students’ results without further delay, especially with regards to Supplementary Examination Sessions in September. SDM also made reference to the fact that during this year, examination fees were substantially raised across the board and thus, students expected an improved service.

SDM called on MATSEC to immediately publish examination results and also to re-examine its system of result publication. It has noted that while for University of Malta and University of Malta Junior College Examinations, Collective Agreements clearly stipulate deadlines for result publication, the same cannot be said for MATSEC’s Supplementary Sessions Exams. SDM called on MATSEC to establish a clear deadline for results publication to put students’ mind at rest that results would be published within a stipulated time frame. SDM also called on MATSEC to increase its communication effort with institutions such as Junior College, MCAST, Higher Secondary, ITS and Sir MA Refalo Gozo.
