Between 4 and 7pm today BirdLife Malta will be holding the first of its birdwatching afternoonS to celebrate autumn bird migration.

In September, countless birds are flying over the Mediterranean Sea to find a wintering spot in Sub-Saharan Africa. This is a truly spectacular time for bird watching in the Maltese islands. Buskett is one of the best places on the islands for observing migratory birds - the wooded area provides food and shelter for birds to roost overnight before continuing on their way. In the last few days, big flocks of different raptors and bee-eaters have been observed stopping over at the woodland.

This is a family friendly event and nature activities will keep the youngest visitors busy. BirdLife Malta will also be holding bird ringing demonstrations for the public. For bird watching some binoculars will be provided, however it's suggested to take one's own. BirdLife Malta volunteers will help by pointing out migratory birds and telling people more about their behaviour.

The Migration Fest will consist of several public events over the peak bird migration period in September and October. The second event will take place at Laferla Cross on 27 September.
