Paul Caruana will be exhibiting 25 watercolours at Palazzo de Piro in Mdina between 2 and 31 October. President Emeritus Ugo Mifsud Bonnici will inaugurate the show. Viewing times are Monday to Sunday from 10.30 am.

The works deal with Caruana's unforgettable experience of his childhood days spent in one the lower ends of Valletta along St Joseph Street and Diju Balli. This was at a time when the city was heavily overcrowded and families apparently tried to outdo one other over the number of children they could bear.

It was also one of those phases in the history of this island when grinding poverty was widespread with people somehow surviving through a hand-to-mouth existence.

Asked about the choice of venue, Caruana said: "Mdina emits a kind of magic that infuses visitors with a sense of serenity, a balm that comforts them. I picked Palazzo de Piro because of its welcoming ambiance and because sadly, fewer people are visiting museums to view art exhibitions when compared to such public places."

This will be Caruana's 11th solo show and is titled 'Dear Younger Me'. Caruana has been a keen watercolour artist since childhood and has taken part in numerous collective exhibitions, both locally and abroad. He studied art under the late Antoine Camilleri, Harry Alden and Anthony Degiovanni. He also illustrated George Cini's books on Strait Street.
