A 35-year-old IT manager man from St Julians has been released on bail after being taken to court on charges of child pornography.

Charlemagne Caruana was accused of acquiring, producing or disseminating child pornography and of misuse of electronic equipment. He pleaded not guilty.

The case allegedly took place on Tuesday and in the preceding months. It is understood that Mr Caruana allegedly logged on to websites that contained child pornography. Sources said the man’s web browsing was intercepted by Interpol, which informed the Malta police about the case.  

Magistrate Marseann Farrugia granted bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000. No deposit was requested by the court.

Lawyers Joe Giglio, Yanika Camilleri, Vincent Micallef and Andy Ellul appeared for Mr Caruana. Inspector Joseph Busuttil prosecuted.
