AFM investing to address both present and future border control challenges - Minister Abela

Today is the 45th anniversary of service of the Armed Forces of Malta. On this special occasion, Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Carmelo Abela and Commander Jeffrey Curmi visited the military exhibition which is being held at the Valletta Waterfront as part of the celebrations.

Minister Abela said that Malta can look at the Armed Forces with pride. He remarked that thanks to continuous commitment, the Force is being modernized and is investing to address both present and future challenges, especially in relation to border control.

The minister said that the budget measures presented a couple of days ago serve as proof of positive work in favour of advancement for the Armed Forces. Measures include the revision of the current allowance, the €500,000 which will be projected for training purposes as well as the €400,000 which are  aimed for overseas missions. 

Minister Abela reiterated that human resources capabilities are being strengthened with the latest technological equipment. He stated that for instance, AFM is looking at the purchase of a new patrol vessel with an investment of more than €38 million co-financed by EU. 

He also remarked that AFM is currently drafting a strategic vision aimed for the upcoming ten years.
