Meusac recently presented prizes to the winners of a competition organised during the Science in the City festival. For the past four years, Meusac has been responsible for the EU Corner of the annual science festival. More than 60 children and teenagers participated in this competition.

Participants were asked to write a slogan on what women in science meant to them. The two winners were Dion Camilleri, who wrote Women in science is a break from convention and Michela Portelli, who wrote, Women in Science: an explosion of ideas.

During the festival, Meusac also organised a quiz targeting students on Science and the European Union. Three different EU-funded projects were also showcased, all focusing on research in various fields such as mapping the Mediterranean seafloor, the sustainable cleaning and disinfection technologies of fresh produce and realising computational game creativity.

During the presentation of the awards Prof. Alex Felice from the University of Malta and the coordinator of Science in the City, emphasised the importance of children being encouraged to take a keen interest in science. Prof. Felice added that science is not just about medicine, but about searching to reveal the unknown.

Meusac head Vanni Xuereb also spoke of the importance that parents encourage their children to participate in science activities. Meusac is one of the organisations that have participated in the Science in the City festival on an annual basis, since its inception.

Science in the City was partly financed by the Marie Curie Actions, Horizon 2020, the main EU-funding programme for science and research for the period 2014-2020.
