San Andrea Senior School’s Stephen Hawking project trip to Vienna

Monday, 4 January 2016, 16:27 Last update: about 9 years ago

The winners of the Stephen Hawking Project for Science and Technology 2014-2015 flew to Vienna last month together with two of their teachers.

The Science and Technology Department at San Andrea Senior School organizes an annual science competition for the Grade 11 students. The 15th edition of the project was won by Francesca Farrugia, Jihene Mallia Grech and Alexandra Mallia with their investigation into maximizing the energy efficiency of photovoltaic panels using solar trackers.

The group spent five days in Vienna visiting a number of science oriented museums, the Albertina Art Gallery and other sights that this city is famous for.

Professor Stephen Hawking had given permission for his name to be used for this project to the San Andrea Science and Technology department way back in 2000 with the hope that students be encouraged in whatever endeavour they might undertake and to understand that despite great physical drawbacks, they can persist in learning, investigating and applying their acquired knowledge. Participation in this school initiative is considered essential to the holistic learning approach practiced by San Andrea School.
