Rabat Agape festival opens on 15 January

Monday, 11 January 2016, 15:44 Last update: about 9 years ago

The annual Agape cultural festival organised by the Paulus foundation starts on Friday 15 January and continues up till the end of February with a number of diverse events such as lectures, concerts, exhibitions and recitals.

Now an established fixture in Malta's cultural scene, the festival seeks to organise a number of different cultural events promoting Maltese sacred music and the Pauline cult in Malta.

The opening activity is going to be a lecture by Evelyn Baluci who has just finished her research about Maltese sacred vestments and ornaments.  Starting at 7pm on Friday 15 January, this one hour lecture in English will be held at St Publius church in Rabat, adjacent to St Paul's parish church.

The following day, a guided visit to the medieval chapel known as 'Tas-Sancir' in the limits of Rabat will be taking place at 3pm and those interested in attending are invited to book their place and transport on 79059074.

In the evening, an exhibition of Maltese lace will be inaugurated at the Wignacourt Museum in Rabat by Dr Ian Borg, Parliamentary Secretary for EU funds and the EU presidency.

The highlight of this festival is the annual musical concert organised at St Paul's parish church in Rabat, this year taking place on Saturday 23 January.  This concert will be featuring a number of premier works by Maestro Ray Sciberras together with other works from the Wignacourt Museum archives.

The Paulus Foundation thanks the Good Causes Fund, APS Bank, the Janatha Stubbs Foundation, Abertax, Central Bank of Malta, Mr Green, Wignacourt Museum and GreenMT for their constant support towards this festival.
