Jien, wiehed minnhom

Monday, 15 February 2016, 15:35 Last update: about 10 years ago

Steve Ebejer is not your average time traveller. His is an uncontrollable power, which means he can find himself sucked out of the present and thrown into another time and place at any moment. And each time he has to save the world.

QWritten by John A. Bonello, Jien, wieħed minnhom - the sequel to Merlin Publishers' best selling sci-fi and fantasy novel Fil-Mergħat tal-Impossibbli - Steve has come to grips with his role as a Seraphim, a time traveller destined to watch guard over mankind's future and set right the wrongs before these snowball into worldwide catastrophe.

In the first book of the duology Unus Mundus, we saw a dazed, reluctant Steve darting in time and space from present-day Valletta to a war-ravaged future Mdina, to a dark conspiratorial Vatican City, to a high-tech Malta and all the way to Trafalgar Square, London, in 2082.

In Jien, wieħed minnhom, Steve is in 2056, in the freezing North of Canada, surrounded by four thousand environmental activists marching towards Greenland. Steve's powers are increasing, and as the aurora borealis splashes its colours across the sky, he has to use his ever stronger powers to change the future of humanity. This time he cannot make a mistake, and he cannot hold back, for this is the end of the journey.

Skillfully written with a blend of distinct characters and heartfelt emotions, Jien, wieħed minnhom is a page-turner thriller, delicately crafted so that it appeals widely even to readers who are not usually into sci-fi and fantasy. This is one of those books that you carry around with you until you finish it, eager to see how the twisted curves of time will be straightened out.

Chris Gruppetta, Merlin Publishers Director said: "John has the uncanny ability to make his readers wait eagerly for the sequels. This book is further proof that Maltese literature, in the right hands, is more than capable of stretching itself into the most varied of genres and styles."

John A. Bonello is the author of the award-winning L-Aħħar Ħolma and Is-Sitt Aħwa in the Il-Logħba tal-Allat trilogy, both of which won the National Book Prize for Best Young Adult Fiction in Maltese.

Jien, wieħed minnhom is available from all bookstores or directly from the publisher's website www.merlinpublishers.com
