A 29-year-old man from Somalia appeared in court today accused of stealing a mobile phone.

The man, Abdihukun Mohamud, was accused of stealing a Samsung S5 mobile phone and €60 in cash. The theft occurred yesterday at around 6pm while at the Zabbar Shooting Club.

The prosecution told Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera how the man committed this crime a couple of days after he had left prison after he served another sentence which was also related to theft. He was previously sentenced to prison after he had stolen a truck.

The man, who said he was going to be transferred to the United States of America in a month’s time, pleaded guilty to the charges.

The defence argued that the man returned the mobile phone minutes after stealing it at the detriment of Grazia Falzon.

Mohamud was also charged with relapsing. He was handed a six-month prison sentence.

Inspector Josric Mifsud led the prosecution. Lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for the accused.
