Jamie Vardy's double sent Leicester closer to a first Premier League title on Sunday, sealing a 2-0 victory over struggling Sunderland.

Vardy took his tally for the season to 21 goals by ending a five-game drought. The goals kept Leicester 7 points clear of Tottenham who beat Manchester United 3-0.

Sunderland is four points from safety with six games remaining.

The hosts held off the leaders until the 66th minute when Vardy met Danny Drinkwater's high ball. The England striker tapped in his second in stoppage time after rounding goalkeeper Vito Mannone.

It appears little can stop Leicester completing its amazing transformation from a team fighting relegation a year ago to lifting the league trophy in May. Leicester are now also sure of a place in the Champions League for the first time in the club's history.

Tottenham scored three times in a swaggering six-minute spell to end a 15-year winless run at home to Manchester United on Sunday, grabbing an impressive 3-0 victory that maintains its pursuit of Premier League leader Leicester.

But with Leicester seven points in front, ending the drought was more significant for second-place Tottenham's bid to qualify for the Champions League for only the second time.

United's capitulation from the 70th minute — conceding goals from Dele Alli, Toby Alderweireld and Erik Lamela — was a major setback for Louis van Gaal's quest to make the top four. Manchester City is now four points ahead of neighbor United in the fourth and final Champions League place.
