Survey results published by The Malta Independent today show that more than half of the Maltese population believe that the Labour government is corrupt, the Nationalist Party said this evening.

“This survey result builds on other surveys that consistently showed how corruption was increasingly becoming a major concern for the population.

Instead of tackling the source of corruption, instead of taking concrete action against government officials – primarily Minister Konrad Mizzi and the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff Keith Schembri - the Labour government is seeking to deflect attention by targeting Opposition members who are speaking out against the gross excesses of this Government.

The latest mud-slinging attack on Deputy Leader Mario de Marco is being orchestrated by the same people who are at the centre of the largest political scandal to hit Malta. Mario de Marco commissioned works on his private property and paid in full for these works when the contractor submitted the relevant tax invoice. The works were carried out between 2011 and 2015.

It is both ironic and sad that the Labour Government, instead of taking the action that everyone is expecting them to take and rid itself of those elements that are shaming both government and Malta, is trying to divert attention through false insinuations.”
