Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said today that the question of whether Konrad Mizzi had paid a fine related to a breach of tax regulations had to be put to the minister himself. Dr Muscat told The Malta Independent: "All I know is that the Minister is making sure to regularise everything related to tax."

Minister Konrad Mizzi failed to declare his offshore thrust within the stipulated 30 days to the Inland Revenue Commissioner. The Prime Minister had said that process for the Minister to pay his fine had started.

Journalists also asked when the 'independent' audit commissioned by Konrad Mizzi would be concluded. Dr Joseph Muscat said that he could not say ehen, adding that he would not put pressure on the unnamed auditors.

Dr Muscat failed to declare if his final decision would include the resignation of Energy and Health Minister Konrad Mizzi. He said a decision will be taken in due time and that this will be immediately communicated to the public. 

The Prime Minister was answering questions following a visit to the Playmobil factory in Hal Far. He announced an investment of €30 million for the extension of the factory.

Playmobil was set up in Malta back in 1971. Last year, the company produced more than 110 million figures. It employs over 1,000 people. The project involves an extension of 16,000 square metres.

Dr Muscat said that Playmobil was just one example of a success story. "The economic stability of Malta will continue to flourish," he concluded.
