The Nationalist Party this afternoon said that 24 hours after revelations in the media regarding the OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri, and the Prime Minister has not reacted to these reports.

Joseph Muscat has chosen to remain silent on the person in whom, he said last Friday, he had great trust, the PN said in a statement.

Yesterday, The Malta Independent on Sunday and The Sunday Times, both of whom are partners with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, carried reports about Schembri and the Panama Papers.

The Malta Independent revealed that in 2014, one year into this government's term, $750,000 were transferred into the company owned by Schembri in the British Virgin Islands.

The Sunday Times reported that Schembri, together with No-Portfolio Minister Konrad Mizzi, tried their best to avoid informing local banks that they were opening trusts in New Zealand, linked with the secret company in Panama.The Prime Minister has said nothing on these media reports.

In the light of these new developments, the PN asked whether Muscat still has full trust in Schembri.This morning, Schembri said he had instructed his lawyers to file a libel suit against The Malta Independent on the report carried yesterday.
