Independent MP Marlene Farrugia's new 'orange' political party will be called the Partit Demokratiku.
Dr Farrugia and the rest of the 'temporary leaderhip' will resign when the party is officially launched and holds a proper leadership election, in which all members will be eligible to vote. Marlene Farrugia famously broke from the PL's ranks in November and vowed to launch a new political force.
Dr Anthony Buttigieg is ‘temporary Deputy Leader,’ Engineer Marco Cremona is ‘temporary Secretary General.’ Engineer Duncan Bonnici is ‘temporary treasurer’ and Monique Agius is ‘temporary Public Relations Officer.’
In a statement the PD said there was never such a need for a new voice in poltics. “We are a group of people who are answering the country’s call – the time of tribalism and traditional political parties is over.”
“We come from among you because, like you we understood that for the country to rid itself of bad practices that have become rooted in local politics there needs to be a new political force, built on people who have succeeded through hard work and sacrifice, not by riding on some political bandwagon to gain advantage.”
“We believe we understand what you expect of us and we will try to reach your aspirations when it comes to excercising politics in Malta."

Ing. Marco Cremona
"The Partit Demokratiku will be there only to give to you, not to take away from you. It will serve you and not be served by you. Above all it will keep the national interest at its forefront. We will use all our strength and energy to convey our message.”
PD to be registered in coming days
The PD will be officially registered in the coming days. This will be followed by a call for membership. Anyone wishing to do so can attend a small activity that will be held or contact the party on [email protected]. There will be no membership fee.
A General Meeting will be held at a later stage, during which the party’s statute will be launched. The ‘temporary’ leadership will resign at this point and members would then be able to nominate and vote for a new, official leadership. All members will have a vote.
Once that is done, the Partit Demokratiku, which will be the orange party, will be officially launched.
“We are aware that we will have to face the machines of two giant political parties, whose resources are limitless and that they will attack us and denigrate us with all their strength. No problem. Our aim will remain to create national unity based on the qualities of a society that makes us proud.”
“In the coming days and weeks we will be asking to meet with you to encourage you to answer our country’s call for renewal,” the Partit Demokratiku said.
