A 17-year-old girl died this morning as the car driven by her brother crashed into a wall in Kappara. She has been named as Tara Licari.

The police said the accident took place at 5am when a Toyota Vitz driven by a 23-year-old of Balzan in the direction of Sliema crashed into a wall and later into another vehicle.

The driver was carrying two passengers, the driver’s sister, aged 17, and a Danish 18-year-old, both also resident in Balzan.

The 17-year-old died on the scene and the two men were taken to hospital for treatment. The Danish boy suffered grievous injuries while the driver was unhurt.

Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech is conducting an inquiry.

Part of the road, where a massive project is taking place, was temporarily closed to traffic while the inquiry was held.
