Alleanza Bidla said today during a press conference that, "there is a lot more to come out in the coming days in relation to the medical visa scam."

Ivan Grech Mintoff, the leader of the party, said that if the Labour Party and Nationalist Party do not come together and discuss this issue more information will come out in public. He explained that there is no need for more of this to come out, if both the PN and PL can come together, as he does not want Malta's reputation to be damaged further.

Mr Grech Mintoff was addressing the media, after The Malta independent published a number of stories in relation to medical visa racket of which a government official, Neville Gafa, is implicated.

Mr Grech Mintoff said that in this scandal we are not talking of thousands but millions, and this has to do with the Schengen visas, medical visas, residence permits, security and much more. He said that he does not believe that Mr Gafa was working alone in such a situation. He added that in the past months Allenza Bidla had asked both the PL and PN to meet with them but they never called up to set meetings.

The Alleanza Bidla leader said that in this whole issue there are videos, invoices, and messages. This newsroom last Wednesday published a number of trascipts from Viber text messages between Neville Gafa and middleman Khaled Ben Nasan.   

He appealed for all genuine nationalists and Labourites to push for the situation to be resolved and for the truth to prevail, condemning those in government for denying the situation. As for the police investigation, and the police saying that not enough evidence was at hand to go after Neville Gafa, Mr Grech Mintoff said that the police had not seen the evidence he has seen.

"There are definately people who know about the case in the Office of the Prime Minister. According to the statement to the police Khaled Ben Nasan, from the teaboy to the Minister, they knew that money was being passed for these visas". 

He said the Prime Minister should suspend Gafa from working with those needing medical visas.

He explained that Mr Ben Nasan is not a whistleblower as he does not work for the OPM and he did not go through the channels to be one. As such, he said the PN is diverting attention from the real issue by trying to turn the situation into a case of government going after a whistleblower.

Another representative of Alleanza Bidla, Anthony Calleja, called the Police Commissioner a puppet on a string, and said that if the police force continues to be seen as weak and untrustworthy, then eventually that will result in the courts being viewed the same way, given that justice relies on the police doing their job well.
