ADŻ suggests covering Santa Venera Regional Road 'canyon'

Saturday, 3 September 2016, 14:11 Last update: about 10 years ago

Alternattiva Demokratika Żgħażagħ today called for the covering of Triq Regjonali in Santa Venera. ADŻ stated that residents themselves had asked the organisation to talk about the problems they are facing on a daily basis.

ADŻ spokesperson and Santa Venera resident Marc' Andrea Cassar stated that in the past AD candidates and officials had already called for the road to be covered. However their pleas were left unheard. According to Cassar the time had come to put this issue back on the agenda.

Cassar further stated that: "There are a number of residents who live right above this road. Every day and night these residents are exposed to exhaust and noise coming from vehicles. Covering the entire road, from the Santa Venera tunnel till the roundabout would block noise and pollution from reaching the residents"

Pascal Aloisio, also from ADŻ said that covering the road would also provide a huge public open space in a highly urbanised area. "It is high time that something is given back to Santa Venera residents, who have had to bear the brunt of a major road cutting through the community for years. Our doable proposal will go a long way in tackling or at least mitigating some of the problems caused by heavy traffic."
