The Partit Demokratiku will be officially launched on Friday, its founder Marlene Farrugia writes today.

Dr Farrugia resigned from the Labour Party last year and, while remaining in Parliament as an independent MP, she has worked to form a new political organisation.

So far, a group of people led by Dr Farrugia has worked on the setting up of the party which will now become officially formed on Friday with the holding of the first annual general meeting.

In her blog on The Malta Independent, Dr Farrugia says that in the course of the next few weeks the party will also be holding public discussions.

Yesterday, Sunday newspaper Illum reported that Marco Cremona resigned from the post of secretary general after what he called lack of policy direction.

The Partit Demokratiku is in talks with the Nationalist Party on the formation of a pre-election coalition.
