Prohealth Ltd & La Roche-Posay donates skin care products to Mater Dei’s oncology departments

Prohealth Ltd & La Roche-Posay, are donating a value of approximately €3000 in La Roche-Posay products donated to the Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre and to Rainbow (Children Oncology) Ward MDH, which was presented at a seminar held at Villa Arrigo. 

A leading expert within the dermatology industry, the company is attempting to shed light on the skin problems experienced by the vast majority of patients undergoing both chemo and radiotherapy treatments. 

Being a leading expert for many years within the dermatology field La Roche-Posay has recognized internationally the importance of skin problems experienced by the vast majority of patients undergoing both chemo and radiotherapy treatments. 

Guest speaker at the seminar Prof. Diana Luftner is a leading hematologist and oncologist who specializes in breast cancer and is the vice president of the German society of oncology and hematology. She told the Malta Independent that "there is a lack of awareness in the field since in oncology we are always dealing with something graver, so it is easy to forget about the effects oncology therapy has on the skin. It compromises our quality of life, especially in a society that values a healthy, chic and aesthetic lifestyle.

The skin care products according Prof. Luftner are to be used a prophylactics, designed for persons about to start treatment, stressing that it should start being used up to three weeks before the treatment begins

To better understand the impacts on skin of oncology treatment, La Roche-Posay has brought together a working group composed of dermatologists and oncologists specialising in dermatological problems associated with these treatments. This working group, the European SKIn Management in Oncology (ESKIMO), has analysed and identified the various side effects of treatments and has proposed recommendations of suitable skincare products and make-up.
